Natural Remedies for Nail Fungus

Natural remedies for nail fungus can be quite effective at treating this uncomfortable condition.

The growth of fungus under or around the nails is usually caused by a lack of friendly bacteria called lactobacilli in the body.

Simply taking a quality form of acidophilus will usually alleviate this deficiency. When taken internally, acidophilus inhibits the harmful bacteria that cause fungal infection. Use a nondairy formula.

Fungal infections can also be treated by applying a combination of equal parts of water and vinegar with a cotton swab to the affected areas. This will help to directly attack the fungus growing under or around the nail.

Natural Remedies for Other Nail Problems

A lack of protein, folic acid and vitamin C causes hangnails, as well as white bands across the nails.

A lack of vitamin A and calcium will cause nails to become dry and brittle.

A lack of the B vitamins will cause the nails to become fragile, with horizontal or vertical ridges.

A lack of vitamin B12 will cause excessive dryness, dark nails and curved nail ends.

A lack of iron may cause nails to develop a concave shape and/or vertical ridges.

A lack of zinc may cause white spots to develop on the nails.

A lack of hydrochloric acid (HCL) will cause nails to split.
